Weekend Wonders (Oscars Edition)

via Daily Beast

Truth be told I didn't even watch the Oscars as I don't have cable, but that didn't stop me from frantically looking for images from the red carpet.  Needless to say I was severely underwhelmed by the outfit selections this time around.  I mean really bad!  Above are the two ladies that made my heart skip a bit, such gorgeous selections I must say.  Michelle Williams brings a whole new meaning to my beloved peplum in Louis Vuitton; Gwyneth Paltrow kills it in a simplistic beautiful Tom Ford.  Both dresses totally fit their individual style, which may be why they work so well.

In other news, there is no other news from my weekend.  It was pretty low key as usual.  We went consignment shopping again...big mistake.  Oh and we got frozen yogurt from 16 Handles.  That was amazing!  It's self serve yogurt (16 flavors to choose from) and every topping you could ever want. You pay by the pound when your done.  My new constant craving?!  I think so.

Weekend Wonders (Visitors Edition)

Yay for long weekends!  A weekend that starts with a dentist appointment is never fun, except if you can hardly remember said dentist by the end.  We had a fabulous long weekend with lots of good food, great company and relaxation.  My sister and her boyfriend came down to visit Saturday evening, and we started things off with dinner.  Sunday was shop 'til you drop for Lauren, Mike, and I while Zack caught some much need rest at our apartment.  Lauren bought not 1 but 3 pairs of jeans at Diesel, which is a miracle.  We have been jean shopping with her for about 2 years now, and have yet to find a pair she was happy with until this Sunday.  She also bought a dress and a pair of shoes at our favorite consignment shop...Fendi and Prada respectively.  Needless to say she was thrilled with our finds.  We ended their visit with a trip to Bare Burger, which was outstanding as usual.
Monday Mike and I ventured downtown and proceeded to break our shopping ban.  Huh, it's so hard to have self control when you run into a DVF cashmere sweater dress for $40 (me) or a Comme des Garcons wool overcoat for $300 (Mike.)  Oh well, saving money is over-rated anyway!  We are going to try harder, but I can't make any promises!  After stopping off for a cookie and coffee at Birdbath (my favorite NYC bakery) we headed off the the grocery store.  That's where the last pic comes in.  Zep knew that there was a rotisserie chicken in one of the those bags with his name on it!!  Back to the grind today...but 4 day weeks aren't so bad.

Put It Together

 via Harper's Bazaar

via 770 Behind the Line

A little winter inspiration...even though we are nearing the end of February it is still chilly;  I like to look for fun ways to layer while it is cold because soon enough I won't be able to stand anything more than a lightweight tee.  Joanna is so great at layering.  I absolutely love her style!  If you want to see more of her amazing layering skills check this out.  The six looks from J. Crew are obviously pre-holiday, but look number 3 struck me as something I would like to try, plus the bright colors and perfect red lips always put me in a good mood.  Happy long weekend!

Lovely Day

via Pinterest

I hate when people say that they don't subscribe to Valentine's Day because it is a "marketing made" holiday.  It is in fact the feast day of Saint Valentine, a martyred saint who lost his life in the name of love.  I was raised Catholic, and took St. Valentine's name on my confirmation day, because I believe that love conquers all.  Every one of my greatest accomplishments and memories were all surrounded by love, and when times are rough I always try to remember that love will shine through and rescue me.  February 14th is a time to think about all of the people, places, and memories in your life that you love, have loved, and will love.  This is what should be celebrated and remembered on this day...and let's be serious, it is also an excuse to eat chocolate and bask in fresh flowers; really what's better than that?!

Weekend Wonders (Love Edition)

Mike and I decided to celebrate Valentine's Day twice...over the weekend and tomorrow.  Saturday he took me out for thai, and Sunday before grocery shopping we stopped into a consignment shop and bought each other a gift.  This was especially nice since we have been on spending hiatus!  He got me a new winter coat (which I will post pics of soon enough) and I got him a pair of pants.  The wind whipping through the streets made it especially cold so we stayed indoors for the most part, nice and cozy.
Fashion week started in the city last Thursday so all of the beautiful skinny people are out and about...pretty exciting actually.  As for tomorrow?  I am responsible for dinner...I see take away indian in the near future (:

Highline Diner

A couple of weeks ago my boss and I stopped into this place for lunch.  I think it was previously the Empire Diner, which closed a bit of time ago.  It was a shame because it is a really old traditional diner with tons of charm.  Lo and behold it has reopened, and the food is super good.  I had the "hangover sandwich" even though i didn't have a hangover.  Avocado, cheese, lettuce, sriracha sauce, and a fried egg...Simple, but fabulous.

Weekend Wonders (Super Bowl Edition)

We trekked upstate this weekend for Super Bowl festivities since we don't have cable, and it's more fun with crazy foot ball fans anyway.  My Dad made enough paella to actually feed both  the Giants and the Patriots, and I contributed by concocting some over the top jalapeño poppers.   Boy were they spicy!!  Fun was had by all especially since a) the Giants won and b) Mike and I managed to win our pool (and we never win anything!)

Bare Burger

All organic? check.  Grass fed? check.  cool decor? check.  Thick milkshakes? check.

Bare burger is so good!  After driving upstate to drop Zeppelin off to go to the vet, Mike and I got back to the city fairly late on Tuesday night and very hungry.  Fast food on the road was tempting, but we decided to get burgers, but a more "legit" alternative.  This place rocked...they have all different burger varieties as well as amazing onions rings with several dipping sauces (I'm all about condiments) as well as a really great milkshake (which is hard to come by in NYC I find.)  The good news?  This place is four short blocks from my apartment.  The bad news? I think I ate two days worth of calories in one meal.  Hmmmm...pretty sure it was worth it.
